More Texas voters approve of Biden’s COVID-19 treatment than Trump’s: poll

More Texas voters said they approved of President Joe Biden’s handling of COVID-19 than responses from former President Donald Trump or current Governor Greg Abbott.

A new university in Texas /Texas Tribune A poll of 1,200 registered voters found that 49% said they approved of the work Biden is doing to respond to COVID-19, and 36% said they disapprove.

Texas voters approved of Trump’s actions against the pandemic in the White House less, with 45% saying they supported his response and 48% saying no. Worse yet, 43% of Texans polled in October expressed strong disapproval of the work Trump was doing to fight the coronavirus.

Biden is also performing slightly better than Abbott, who in April received good marks from a 56% majority of Texas voters.

“[Biden]starts, in a Republican state, with pretty respectable numbers, ”said Daron Shaw, UT-Austin government professor and co-lead of the investigation, in remarks to the Tribune published Friday.

Forty-five percent of Texas voters in the poll said Trump “had taken steps as president that justified barring him from a future elected term,” while 48 percent said he did not. hadn’t. However, those numbers encompass a massive partisan divide in which 84% of self-identified Democrats said Trump should not be allowed to run a 2024 campaign compared to 81% of Republicans who said he should run again.

Compared to his Republican counterparts, voters in Texas gave Biden slightly higher approval for the pandemic. But in terms of overall job performance barely a month in office, voters were a bit more critical. Forty-five percent of Texas voters polled before Feb. 18 said they approved of Biden’s job as president, compared with 44% who disapproved of him. Abbott received a slightly higher overall approval rating at 46 percent.

Despite wide divisions between Republicans and Democrats throughout the polls, a solid majority has agreed on one thing: Congress is functioning very poorly. Fifty-seven percent of Texas voters said they disapproved of the work Congress as a whole is doing in Washington, and 43 percent expressed strong disapproval.

GOP Texas Senator John Cornyn received approval from less than a third of respondents, with 42 percent of those polled saying they disapprove of the work he does in the office. A quarter said they were neutral or had “no opinion”.

His fellow Republican Senator Ted Cruz had a much higher approval rating of 45%, but his recent controversial visit to Cancun, Mexico, was “not evident in the voters’ votes,” pollsters said.

Freezing winter conditions were still gripping the state during the February 12-18 ballot.
