More than 30 shoppers were injured on Saturday when a suspect sprayed a strong repellant at a Miami-area store, police said.
After forcibly grabbing candles at the Bath & Body Works at the Miami International Mall in Doral, Fla., The suspect fled in a yellow cab, Doral Police spokesperson Rey Valdes said.
The police had not yet made an arrest.
“We started to cough, actually, where we were, and we weren’t even that close,” one buyer told NBC Miami. “We could feel it. We could feel it. We could breathe it.”
A manager who was sprayed directly in the face has been hospitalized, the TV station reported.
The Miami-Dade Fire Department did not immediately respond to a request for information on the status of buyers.
Valdes said the repellant could have been bear spray, which is more potent than pepper spray.
Juliet Arcodia contributed.
