More than 30,000 home health workers missed a deadline Thursday to receive at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, The New York Times reported, citing preliminary data.
Preliminary data from the New York Department of Health, which comes from a departmental survey conducted Thursday and published Friday, shows that at least 34,000 workers have not yet received a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
However, information gathered showed that a higher percentage of home health care workers were vaccinated than industry executives had expected, according to the Times.
Seventy percent of home health workers were due to be vaccinated by Thursday, but data showed 86 percent of licensed workers at New York home health agencies had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. before the deadline. Seventy-one percent were fully immunized, the Times noted.
By comparison, more than 90 percent of nursing home workers and hospital staff had been at least partially vaccinated by the September 27 deadline, according to the newspaper.
The Times noted that there were at least 250,000 workers in the Empire State. The ministry’s survey elicited responses from home health care agencies with approximately 245,000 employees.
The vaccine requirement applies to 1,500 licensed home health agencies in New York City.
