KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Garth Brooks was in town on Saturday night to perform in front of more than 70,000 fans at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

This is the first major event at full capacity at the site since the start of the pandemic.

“We’re excited to see Garth Brooks,” said Grace Greninger, of Joplin, Missouri.

The spectators expressed their excitement to witness the live music again.

“It’s good to get the freedoms back and to be able to go out and do what we’ve always done,” added Kenny Clabough of Peculiar, Missouri.

Prior to the concert, fans played corn hole and grilled hot dogs and burgers in the parking lot.

“There’s the hatchback – lots of friends, great time, food, drink, everything,” said Ryan Reynolds, of Grandview, Missouri.

It mirrored a Chiefs home game, but everyone was there to see a man, Garth Brooks.

“Whenever he’s nearby, we come to see him, we love him,” said Kansas City resident Michael Parezo.

Many fans have mentioned that they have followed Brooks’ career for years.

“I grew up on Garth Brooks so being here is kind of a dream come true,” Reynolds said.

With over 70,000 fans crammed inside Arrowhead Stadium and the pandemic raging with increasing COVID-19 cases, the majority of fans KSHB 41 News has spoken with aren’t really worried about going at the concert and want to have a good time.

“I feel like as long as everyone is safe and following the guidelines or whatever they’re really comfortable with. I think it’s okay,” said Blake Ruble of Kansas City.

Others agreed with Ruble’s relaxed demeanor.

“I am not afraid of the pandemic,” Clabough said.

To be on the safe side, the chefs have asked everyone to wear a mask when inside at all times, which was pointed out by Garth Brooks himself.

“I understand where they’re coming from. I’m not against it, like I’ll cover up when I need to, but yes, I will follow the rules,” said Marissa Agueros of Kansas City.

People previously vaccinated reported feeling safer.

“Everyone understands the rules, so we’re not worried about it at all, we have all of our vaccines, we are all vaccinated, so we’re good to go,” Parezo said.

Apart from the concert, the KCMO health service organized a vaccination clinic where several people took the opportunity to get vaccinated.

“For everyone, I think it’s great to give people the chance to get vaccinated because that’s what’s going to stop this madness so we can see all the shows live,” Greninger said.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is urging everyone who attended the concert to self-quarantine for 10 days if they are not vaccinated.
