More than half of corn crop is silky and soy crop condition rating is increasing

Conditions for corn and soybeans in the United States are improving.

Overall, both cultures maintain progress above the five-year averages, according to the USDA Crop Progress Report.

BUT

On Sunday, the United States had 56% of its corn crop at the silk stage compared to 52% on average over five years.

The USDA reports that 8% of the US corn crop is at the dough stage compared to an average of 7% over five years.

On Monday, the US corn condition rating was 65% good / excellent compared to 65% a week ago.

SOY

The USDA on Sunday estimated the country’s soybean crop at 63% flowering compared to 57% on average over five years.

The USDA noted that 23% of soybeans are in the pod forming stage compared to an average of 21% over five years.

For soybeans, 60% are rated good / excellent, above 59% a week ago.

WHEAT

In its Monday report, the USDA rated the US spring winter wheat crop as good / excellent at 11% compared to a five-year average of 16%.

Crop condition and condition estimates are based on survey data collected weekly from early April through late November, according to the USDA report. “Non-probability surveys of the progress and condition of crops include feedback from approximately 3,600 respondents whose professions offer them the opportunity to make visual observations and frequently connect them with farmers in their counties. Based on standard definitions, these respondents subjectively estimate the progression of crops through the various stages of development, as well as the progression of producers’ activities. They also provide subjective assessments of harvest conditions, ”the USDA said in its Monday report.

Most respondents complete their questionnaires on Friday or early Monday morning and submit them to their state’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) field offices by mail, phone, fax, email, or through a secure website. A small number of reports are completed on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Regardless of when questionnaires are completed, respondents are asked to report for the entire week ending Sunday, according to the report.
