It’s a surprising move for the long-running automaker, but Morgan is the latest company to jump into the off-road trend. The brand presents the Morgan Plus Four CX-T which offers a range of updates to make the roadster perform well in the dirt. There is a limited run of just eight of these machines for £ 170,000 each.

The CX-T benefits from an external roll bar above the passenger compartment and lights mounted above the roof. There are storage bags on each fender.

Morgan overhauls the rear section to create ample storage space for two full-size spare wheels. This space also comes with two Pelican waterproof cases, one Zarges aluminum toolbox and two 11 liter Rotopax fuel cans.

To handle off-road work, the Plus Four CX-T features modified Plus Six wishbones that widen the track and increase wheel travel. It rolls on EXE-TC coilovers with internal stops. There is 9.05 inches (230 millimeters) of ground clearance. Custom bushings in the lower suspension arms increase durability.

A five-piece skid plate configuration protects the underbody from obstacles. There is also a revised exhaust layout that exits from the side at the rear to improve the angle of departure.

The Plus Four uses an original BMW 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that develops 255 horsepower (190 kilowatts). Morgan also gets the BMW X-Drive electronic rear differential with custom software. There are three modes: Road with open differential, Offroad with 45% lockout, and Extreme Offroad with 100% lockout.

The CX-T’s cabin comes with a composite hardtop that Morgan designed to fit between the internal and external roll cages. There is an edit track on the dash to hold items like a phone or camera. A removable card holder and cooler bag are located in the passenger floor. A first aid kit is located behind the seats.

Morgan takes control of the CX-T. She intends to build the eight before the end of the year.
