Morgan Wallen to speak about racial slurs scandal in Good Morning America interview with Michael Strahan: “I can only speak my truth and that’s all I can do”
Morgan Wallen is expected to appear in an interview with Michael Strahan on Good Morning America Friday, following his scandal in which he was filmed uttering a racial insult.
In an excerpt from the clip, Strahan, 49, told the country music artist, 28, “There’s going to be a lot of people who are going to watch this and say, ‘He only sits down because he wants to clean up his image; it’s quite a performance “- so what do you say? ‘
The Sneedville, Tennessee native responded, “I understand that,” noting that he “will never make everyone happy.”

Wallen added, “I can only come and tell my truth and that’s all I can do.”
The Wallen controversy arose on Jan.31 after a neighbor recorded the country artist as he walked home with friends, disturbing neighbors with noise and car horns. We overheard him say to an acquaintance, “Take care of that shit **** ***” and “take care of that shitty asshole mom ******” as he walked into his home in a clip posted on TMZ.
The Whiskey Glasses artist was then taken off radio and disqualified from competition at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards.
In a later apology in a music video, Wallen said he was “embarrassed and sorry” about the exchange, noting that he “had let so many people down” and was ready to “fully accept any sanctions” to which he was confronted in connection with the incident.

“There are never any excuses for using this type of language,” Wallen said. “I sincerely apologize for using that word. I promise to do better.
Wallen said he plans to educate himself on racism and reach out to black groups in hopes of redeeming himself.
In an April 13 statement he extinguished, Wallen admitted to the past mistakes he made.
“I made some mistakes,” he said, “I’m trying to fix them, + I apologized because I was so sorry + I made amends.”
