Morning report: Dana White says the UFC has a fight for the title opposite Daniel Cormier, not Francis Ngannou

On Sunday night, Francis Ngannou quickly worked with Cain Velasquez, eliminating the former double UFC heavyweight in just 26 seconds at UFC Phoenix. After the biggest win of his career, Ngannou began to press for a title, saying that heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier "should come to avenge his teammate".

Speaking with ESPN after the fight, UFC President, Dana White, revealed that the UFC already had an opponent lined up, Cormier.

"Well yes, Francis is here," White said. "Cormier is injured right now and we have another fight to play for Cormier first, so we'll see how it all goes."

When Cormier won the title at UFC 226, a superfight with Brock Lesnar was immediately teased. However, despite Lesnar's return to USADA in July, the imminent return of his return was not discussed, leaving even Cormier wondering if the fight was going to unfold. Meanwhile, Cormier suffered injuries from defending his title against the heavyweights against Derrick Lewis in UFC 230, leaving the one who is fighting him in the air and Dana White was not interested in enlightening.

"[Cormier] is not in good health yet so I will never announce a fight without having been, "White said when asked about Cormier's opponent. "It does not make sense, I do not even know when Cormier will be ready."

Cormier is currently being sidelined because of a back injury and he announced last week that he would postpone the scheduled date of his retirement during his recovery.

Dude, talk about a weird weekend. Bellator had the 15-second no-contest and D1 Paul Daley. Invicta was surprised to finish, and the UFC had a clumsy Cain defeat in 26 seconds. MMA became a complete MMA, including asking Cain to cut his knee.

Thank you for reading and see you tomorrow.
