Over the weekend, Conor McGregor made headlines again when he had a physical altercation with Machine Gun Kelly at the MTV Awards. The brawl was the latest in a series of McGregor’s social missteps and as the former two-division UFC champion continues to make the news for the wrong reasons, some in the MMA community are wondering if McGregor gets lost in “Notorious,” including former UFC two-division champion Daniel Cormier.
“The crazy thing about McGregor is when I say the gimmick, I mean the billionaire with the strut and the fancy cars and the money, because the reality is it’s WWE.” , Cormier said on his ESPN show. “You get a character, your character can be The Billionaire, your character can be Vince MacMahon. For the past few months, McGregor has been a public relations nightmare. He also tweeted and then deleted a horrific Tweet about Khabib Nurmagomedov’s late father, which then sparked a feud with Cormier.
All in all, it has been an unfortunate year for McGregor. Bad PR aside, McGregor has also lost twice this year and is now stuck rehabilitating his broken leg. Considering the way things have turned out, it has even been questioned whether McGregor should hang up the gloves and pursue his other business ventures. Topping the Forbes list of highest paid athletes in 2020, McGregor has no shortage of other opportunities open to him, and ones that will put him in much less physical danger, but Cormier thinks it’s not for “Notorious”.

McGregor is currently in the process of rehabilitating his broken leg, but has said he intends to return to the cage next year and when he does he is already aiming for a fourth fight with Poirier.
