Morning report: Khabib Nurmegomedov says his rivalry with Conor McGregor will never be "over"

[ad_1]

Last week, Conor McGregor spoke with ESPN, where, among other things, he addressed his return to the cage, claiming that he wanted revenge against Khabib Nurmagomedov. This is what McGregor has been saying all summer, that his rivalry with Nurmagomedov is not over. Well, Khabib agrees, even though he says it could be inside the cage.

Speaking with ESPN ahead of his lightweight title defense against Dustin Poirier, Nurmagomedov explained his persistent rivalry with McGregor, saying that despite his dominant win over "Notorious", the beef would never be crushed.

"Even this fight is over, everything is not over," Nurmagomedov said. "Emptying people is not enough. I mean just crush him? This is not enough. We must crush his entire team. That's what I think before the fight. That's what I say to my team. "Hey, tonight we're going to war, it's not a fight."

"It will never be finished. Already. Even if we see [each other] somewhere, we will fight, 100%. It does not matter if someone goes to jail or something like that. I'm not afraid of that. If someone needs to go to jail, he does it. . . They go to the hospital and we go to the police. That's all. "

Nurmagomedov does not feel like an empty word, perhaps because immediately after compelling McGregor to submit, Khabib jumped out of the cage and attacked the rest of McGregor's team, provoking a brawl that ultimately resulted in a nine-month suspension for Nurmagomedov well. Although these events do not seem to have deterred Khabib, the fight itself encouraged Dana White. White is openly showing interest in a rematch, largely because of the business he would attract. If Khabib had not jumped out of the cage, the interest in having McGregor "crush" again might be upset. Instead, Dana White said revenge is "absolutely possible".

Khabib is not in agreement. For the moment, says Khabib, their ox in the cage is over. He finished it when McGregor announced the success last year and the only way to change things, is if Conor does what the losing fighters are supposed to do, collect some victories and prove that you belong to it.

"I do not think this fight can take place," Nurmagomedov said. "This guy has to come back and make a series of wins of nine or ten fights. Then we will fight. People watching this interview may think, "Oh, he thinks about it, but when UFC asks this guy to fight Conor for millions of dollars, this guy will take it." Come back and show who you are. Fight with Justin, fight with Iaquinta, fight with Tony. Fight. Introduce yourself. When did he win last time? Three years ago and this guy wants to fight for the title?

"Dana [White], no need to call me. Why does he have to call me about this fight? We sometimes talk with Dana, he's a good guy, but do not talk to me about this crazy fight. I want to fight against real guys – Dustin Poirier, Tony Ferguson, maybe if one of the greatest athletes of all time, Georges St-Pierre, wants to fight. I want to fight these guys. I do not want to fight with a guy who never wins. "

Khabib Nurmagomedov will unify his lightweight title with interim champion Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 on Sept. 7 in Abu Dhabi.

I encourage you to watch the full interview of Khabib. He behaves like a man who really knows he's the best in the world, actually.

"I think that they believe [they will win]. This guy is one of the best in the world. They must believe. Why come fight if you do not believe yourself? I think that they believe too. But after the first round, I think that they do not believe.

The way he says this is one of the coldest MMA quotes in recent history.

Thank you for reading and at Monday.
