Morning Report: Manager: Jorge Masvidal wants to fight Nate Diaz in Nate's backyard

On Saturday night at UFC 241, Nate Diaz returned to the UFC dramatically, dominating former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. After the fight, Diaz immediately called for a fight against Jorge Masvidal, claiming that he wanted to defend his belt from "nasty whore in the game" against the other "best martial artist" of the sport. Masvidal, who was present at UFC 241, seemed to be in the know when Diaz called him and his manager announced that the wheels were already running to do it.

Masvidal director Abe Kawa said yesterday that Masvidal and his team thought the fight was the following: the UFC had already launched the idea and should meet this week to discuss it.

"I think it's a good fight, I think these two guys are going to go on, put on a show for everybody and I think that's what we all want," Kawa said. I'm a heartfelt fan, first and foremost, and if you're a fan of fighting, it's like Christmas for everyone.

"Right after the fight, I had a brief conversation with the superiors and it seems that they like the fight. That being said, we should meet this week to see how that goes. "

These negotiations should be fairly simple. After the victory and legend of Diaz, a Diaz-Masvidal fight quickly became one of the most anticipated fights of the UFC. The only problem however could be the paychecks. Diaz is a notoriously difficult client for the UFC to deal with at the bargaining table and Masvidal, with his new star power, seems to be moving in the same direction. On Saturday, Masvidal insisted that he would demand a pay check reflecting his new celebrity and has already declared that the only fights he was interested in were a title shot or Conor McGregor. With Nate now on the table, Kawa says the last part is not a problem but that Masvidal still deserves, and will get, more money.

"I think it's inevitable," Kawa said. "The guy has been 16 years in the game. It has never been a problem for anyone, be it the USADA, to gain weight, to introduce themselves, to be at the helm. time, to organize concerts, he has always done. So, I think that he's put his time and that the UFC understands that, the fans understand it and I think Nate understands that. He just wants to have a payday, wants to have his money. . .

"Everyone has to look at this from a financial point of view for these guys. They are price fighters. They are not fighting just to say, "I am a UFC fighter." They are fighting for a paycheck, and if the most important paycheck at that time has the title, then why would he attack that? Now, if a bigger salary comes up, then I think the title becomes irrelevant. I do not think the title at this point is the most important fight, so I think it's an exception. "

Fortunately for the UFC, Masvidal is ready to bring a sweetener to the negotiations. Kawa says that Masvidal would be nice to have to fight at Madison Square Garden or Las Vegas if that's what the UFC decides, but that he would also be more than happy to take it to Diaz in his own yard.

"I think December in Vegas is probably where he would prefer," Kawa said. "In fact, he wants to go to Cali where Nate comes from. I do not want to give too much, I prefer that it comes from Jorge rather than me, so I will try to keep things as simple as possible. But he's watching this fight more like the [Darren] Up & # 39; to [fight]; he will go to someone else 's yard and he prefers that to anything else. So, if Vegas is the closest thing that it can get to Cali, then, you know, Vegas. "

Going to California could be the perfect setting for the UFC with this fight. After all, when Diaz called Masvidal, he said, "I know my man is a gangster but he's not a West Coast gangster," and, as Kawa says, the world loves the good old West rivalry -Is.

"The loot on the east coast is different from the loot on the west coast," Kawa concluded. "We had Biggie and Tupac, and now we have Nate and Jorge."

I maintain that Jon is simply saying he does not want to switch to heavyweights, so when he does, people will be interested instead of assuming he will win.
