the Mortal combat the film remains an important part of the fighting game franchise’s legacy, and Deadly Kombat 11 will soon be celebrating that with new skins based on the 1995 film. On Twitter, Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon gave fans a first look at the new skins, and it looks like they’ll include actors Christopher Lambert in Raiden , Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage and Bridgette Wilson as Sonya Blade. Of course, this is not the first reference to the Mortal combat movie in Deadly Kombat 11. There is a Shang Tsung skin based on his appearance in the film, and actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa reprized his role, providing new lines specifically for the game. Ahead of today’s reveal, a datamine has revealed samples of Lambert, Ashby, and Wilson’s voices in the game, so it looks like the new Raiden, Cage, and Sonya skins might come with new audio as well. However, until NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. officially announce that fans may want to temper their expectations, just in case!

In an era when most movies based on video games fell short of the source material, Deadly Kombat kept away from disappointments like Super Mario Bros. and Double Dragon. A reboot of the series is set to hit theaters next year, but time will tell whether or not it can live up to the beloved status of the original film.

Mortal Kombat 11 is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Google Stadia. You can check out all of our previous covers of the game here.
