Mossimo Giannulli seeks to end his prison sentence at home

Giannulli, who went to California prison in November for his role in the college admissions corruption program, believed he would only be kept in quarantine for a short time before being tested negative for coronavirus, his lawyers have said in court documents.

Instead, he spent 56 days in isolation in a small cell at a higher security facility next to the camp, his lawyers said in court documents. It had a “significant” impact on Giannulli’s “mental, physical and emotional well-being”, they wrote.

“Mr. Giannulli has spent almost 40% of his total sentence in solitary quarantine, despite testing negative for COVID-19 at least ten times and despite multiple requests from his lawyer that (the Prison Bureau) release him from 40s, ”his lawyers wrote. .

Giannulli was not allowed out, was allowed to leave his cell to shower once every three days, ate all his meals alone in his cell and had only “sporadic access” to a phone to call his family, his lawyers wrote. He was transferred from the USP Lompoc’s top security facility to the minimum security camp on Wednesday, they said.

His lawyers say the conditions he was in, as well as the ongoing viral crisis, justify his being released to serve the remainder of his five-month sentence at home.

An email requesting comment was sent to the Prisons Office on Thursday.

Giannulli is slated for release in April. His wife, the former “Full House” star, was released last month after spending two months behind bars in federal prison in Dublin, California.

Authorities said parents funneled bribes through a bogus charity run by an admissions consultant to bring their children to top schools with fake athletic credentials or rigged test results.

The famous couple admitted in May that they paid $ 500,000 to bring their two daughters into the University of Southern California as crew recruits, even though neither of the girls were rowers.

Their guilty plea was a shocking reversal for the couple, whose lawyers had insisted for a year to be innocent and accused investigators of fabricating evidence against them.
