Most anticipated games of 2021

New year, new games, baybeee! It’s going to be an interesting year as we will see the Playstation 4 and Xbox One fade away as the sun sets and hopefully the next generation will rise in importance. There aren’t an incredible amount of next-gen (current-gen?) Exclusives right now, but 2021 is looking to fix that with potential bangers.

Just because I don’t have a PS5 yet, doesn’t mean I can’t hype what games I can or can’t play, subject to console availability!

Halo: Infinite

I should start by saying that while I look forward to this game, it’s more of the “Boy, I really hope this game doesn’t suck” kind of anticipation. I loved the Halo series since I was a child. It was in many ways the show I grew up with. What Mario and all those 16 bit bangers meant for the generation before me is how I feel Halo. It introduced me to first person shooters, military sci-fi, and online games. These are all things that I still love today.

So you can imagine I felt some kind of feeling when Halo 5: Guardians all right did not hit. It’s the only one Halo game I still haven’t played. I know I wasn’t the only one to think of it like Halo 5 had virtually no resistance to its release.

I hope Infinite rights the ship and puts some respect on the Halo Last name. Given the extended development of the game, disappointing projection during last summer’s Xbox Series X event, and the yearlong delay that resulted from this screening, it seems a bit uncertain if the game will. You might be wondering that given all the issues and caveats, why is it on my list?

Well i just fucking love Halo, you all.

The possibility of a good Halo gambling will always be something I look forward to. Also, given that it’s the 20th anniversary of the franchise, I’m really in favor of the team at 343 Industries for them to fend for themselves and deliver a good space shooter.

Final Fantasy XVI

If you’ve read any of the gaming articles on The root, so this entry should really come as no surprise.

What can I say? I’m an anime trash, and I own this shit. Not much has been revealed about the type of game Final Fantasy XVI in fact, but if I were a gambler I would say this seems like the third massively multiplayer online game in the franchise, after FF XI and FF XIV: A kingdom reborn (If anyone goes into the comments saying “Well, actually Final Fantasy XIV was technically the second- “on all that is sacred I’ll slap you. We do not recognize this game in this space.)

The trailer released at last summer’s PS5 event promised a full-scale epic, with an art style reminiscent of FF XIV: A kingdom reborn, and the game even shares the same director. A quick look at the official website of the game also gives the idea that the game will be an MMO with several factions.

While I enjoyed what I played FF XIV: A kingdom reborn, there was so much content there that by the time I could play it, I felt like I could never keep up. Whether it’s an MMO or a straightCutting-edge action role-playing game, I can’t wait to dive into the world of Valisthea later this year.

Deathloop

As soon as I saw the trailer for this game, I knew I was there. It basically contains everything I ask for in a game. Unique game mechanics? Check. An artistic style that grabs your attention and doesn’t let go? Check. A developer with banger making experience? Check, verify and verify. Oh, and he has a black protagonist? Shietttt, nigga, you ain’t gotta tell me twice.

Deathloop throws you like a hitman who finds he’s stuck in a time loop on a mysterious island. Eight targets must be killed in a loop or the loop will be reset. The game also has a multiplayer component that places another player in command of an assassin who wishes to protect the loop. and is assigned to kill you to prevent the player from breaking it.

Developer Arkane Studios has been killing him in recent years with Prey and the Dishonored series, so I’m very curious to see where they go next with this title.

Although these are only three games, the list can go on. Honorable mentions go to Horizon: Forbidden West, No More Heroes III, and Shin Megami Tensei 5.
