Most of Southeast Michigan under heavy thunderstorm watch

DETROITA severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Livingston and Oakland counties until 9 p.m. ET.

Severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties until 10 p.m. ET.

Heavy thunderstorms have a good chance of shaking much of southeastern Michigan on Saturday night, especially before midnight. As thunderstorms pass, it stays warm overnight. More tolerable humidity will be in place tomorrow, but it will be even hotter than today under intense sunshine. It continues to look like summer early next week too.

The National Weather Service has a slight risk of strong to severe thunderstorms with heavy showers, frequent lightning and destructive winds and hail on Saturday afternoon and evening.

By 11:00 p.m., a more organized line of showers and thunderstorms will form and sweep the region from northwest to southeast. Temperatures will drop to the rain-cooled 70s when humidity and wickedness arrives.

Remember to rush inside and stop swimming immediately after hearing thunder or seeing lightning. Also, in the event of a power failure, keep generators outside and away from the house to avoid dangerous carbon monoxide.

Scattered showers and persistent thunderstorms Saturday evening. The overnight lows will be close to 70 degrees.

Sunday will be a bit humid in the morning. The second half of the day will be brighter and even warmer. Afternoon temperatures reach 90 degrees. Even with more tolerable humidity, remember to be careful of the heat and put on sunscreen before going out.

Monday and Tuesday will be partly to mostly sunny and much warmer than average. Daytime temperatures reach the middle and upper 80s. Nice weather to go to the beach or to the swimming pool.

Wednesday and Thursday will be hot with the return of showers and thunderstorms. The highs will be in the low and mid 80s every day.
