America’s Most Wanted executive producer and journalist Lance Heflin has passed away. He was 67 years old.
Heflin died on November 15, his wife, 40, Jan Evans, posted a statement on Facebook. Evans did not specify the cause of death but said he was not linked to the coronavirus and had gone peacefully with his family by his side. Saturday would have been his 68th birthday.
“Lance was special to each of us in his own way, bringing joy and laughter into our lives,” Evans wrote. “His work ethic and his ability to remain calm in the most difficult situations were his hallmarks, but for his family, he was the one who helped us anchor ourselves.

Heflin was executive producer of “America’s Most Wanted” for 20 years and is credited with 423 episodes dating back to 1989, helping make the show one of the oldest in American history with more than 1,000 episodes before be canceled in 2011 (she was eventually overtaken by “The Simpsons”).
Heflin was born in Independence, Missouri, and is the son of Missouri Senator Clarence Heflin. He studied journalism at the University of Missouri School of Journalism and spent his early career working as a photographer and investigative producer at Miami resorts.
He then moved on to CBS News and produced the “48 Hours” news series as one of the show’s founding producers. He left the series in 1989 to begin producing “America’s Most Wanted” at Fox.

After retiring from the salon, he owned and worked in a cafe and cellar in Virginia. Some of his other credits include “America’s Most Wanted: Final Justice” and “Manhunter”.
Evans says that instead of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Heflin’s name to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, a charity he worked with to reunite children with their families, as was often done. on “America’s Most Wanted”. There will be no service, but the family will be hosting a “Celebration of Life” in 2021.
