LELAND, Miss. (AP) – Police announced that a 25-year-old Mississippi woman had been arrested after two of her three children drowned after leaving in a locked car that rolled into a creek.

According to Clarion-Ledger, Leland police on Monday charged Jenea Monique Payne with two counts of negligent homicide and one count of child negligence.

Payne told the investigators that she had left the kids for five or ten minutes before going to a convenience store.

Two-year-old Raelyn Johnson was rescued on Saturday as Payne's SUV floated downstream. Steve Smith, age four, and Rasheed Johnson Jr., one year old, drowned in the vehicle.

Leland Police Chief Marcus Davis said Payne had left the keys in the vehicle and that four-year-old would have put the key in the ignition.

Leland is about 85 miles northwest of Jackson.
