Aspen Ladd has explained why she won’t be fighting this Saturday.
During the official weigh-ins for UFC Fight Night 193 on Friday, Ladd (9-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) ran out of weight for his scheduled fight against Macy Chiasson. Her weigh-in turned into a bit of a spectacle, as she stepped on the scale several times with and without clothes.
As she trembled and struggled to raise her arms inside the promotion’s privacy box, Ladd weighed 137 pounds on her last attempt. Shortly after the weigh-ins ended, UFC officials announced that the fight against Chiasson (7-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) was called off.
According to Ladd, her lack of weight happened at least in part because of her period, which she revealed on Instagram began two days before the weigh-in. Fearing to “bleed in front of the media,” UFC officials held napkins in front of the privacy box to fill the gap between the bottom of the box and the floor.
She also added that the fight would have continued if her opponent Chiasson had not refused the fight. “The fight was not called off, my opponent then decided she wouldn’t, as is her right,” Ladd wrote. Chiasson, meanwhile, has not released a statement since the fight was canceled.
In a longer follow-up statement on Twitter, Ladd accepted full responsibility for not hitting his mark on the scales. She apologized to the UFC, Chiasson, her fans and her family.
“I can only say that I apologize and need to do better,” Ladd wrote. “I’ll be better. There are no other options… as I love the sport and want to keep doing what I love and be the best… Again, I’m sorry. I’ll be better!

Ladd and Chiasson were originally scheduled to fight in July, but Chiasson retired just before the weigh-ins due to a foot injury. Chiasson objected to Ladd’s criticisms of the initial cancellation and made it known during this week’s fight.
Ladd hasn’t fought since December 2019, a TKO win over Yana Kunitskaya in the UFC over ESPN 7.
UFC Fight Night 193 takes place Saturday at UFC Apex in Las Vegas and airs on ESPN +.
