ORLANDO, Florida – A mother from Central Florida and her four children have been found dead, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said on Monday.
"We have finally found the remains of the four children," said Sheriff Billy Woods late Monday afternoon, hours after confirming that their mother's body, 32-year-old Casei Jones, was located near Brantley County. in Georgia.
Earlier Monday, the authorities announced that Jones' husband, Michael Wayne Jones Jr., 38, was in Georgia and was being questioned about his death.
Casei Jones' family reported that she and her four children were missing Saturday night. They had not seen or heard from him for six weeks, sheriff officials said.
The children are Cameron Bowers, 10, Preston Bowers, 5, Mercalli Jones, 2, and Aiyana Jones, 1. All had been seen for the last time in the Ocala area four to six weeks ago.
"As a father, as a parent, it breaks my heart," Woods said, his voice breaking during a press conference. "As a sheriff, it makes me angry."
The Brantley County Sheriff's Office said Michael Wayne Jones Jr. had surrendered quickly after being found after a traffic accident.
Woods sent detectives to Georgia to talk to the suspect.
"We may not know why, but we will do all we can to find out how it was done," he said, adding shortly afterwards: "It's wrong. what he did. "
Jones is currently facing charges of second degree murder in the death of his wife.
