A mother of six has died after being shot dead in her moving car in a road rage incident while traveling to celebrate her wedding anniversary.
Julie Eberly, 47, was shot and injured on Interstate 95, north of Lumberton, North Carolina, on Thursday.
Authorities were called to the scene by Ms Eberly’s husband Ryan Eberly, who was driving the couple from their home in Pennsylvania to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
The Eberlys car approached the suspect’s vehicle as it melted into a different lane moments before the shooting, investigators said.
The suspect then went to the side of the couple’s car, rolled down his window and opened fire towards the vehicle, with a bullet coming through the car door and hitting Ms Eberly.

Her husband was not injured in the shooting. Ms Eberly was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead later that day.
Witnesses told the sheriff’s office that the suspect immediately walked away from the scene, taking the first exit off the freeway.
Police asked the public for help in identifying the suspect who was driving a silver 2010 Chevrolet Impala or Malibu with tinted windows and possibly chrome around the frames.
A reward of $ 10,000 was offered for any information leading to the shooter’s arrest. The sheriff’s department said the award was given by a local resident.
Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said none of the couple’s six children were in the car at the time of the shooting.
“It was an innocent family from Pennsylvania going to the beach for a vacation,” Sheriff Wilkins said. “Fortunately, they had left their six children at home with their grandparents, but now these children have to live with the idea of their mother being murdered in such a cowardly and senseless way.
A GoFundMe page for Ms. Eberly’s memorial raised $ 36,524 on Sunday.
“We want to raise funds to honor Julie and her life. Julie was a beautiful, loving, generous and generous person, ”her family wrote in a statement. “We will use the funds to help others and to give to organizations that he cared about. May Julie’s death not be in vain and may her memory be perpetuated by giving in her name.
