The mother of a woman seen dancing on Urban Meyer last weekend – whose video sparked a media storm for the Jaguars coach – is very worried about her daughter.
“[She] can’t even go anywhere. It ruins her life, that’s what it does, ”her mother told USA Today Sports in an interview released Thursday. “I’m worried about his emotional state right now.”
In a viral video since, Meyer was seen on Friday at his Urban Chophouse restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, where the woman was dancing on his lap. Meyer’s wife Shelley, meanwhile, shared on Twitter that she was home babysitting the couple’s grandchildren.
The Jaguars first-year head coach addressed the situation and apologized for “being a distraction” at a press conference on Monday. He said he apologized to the team, owner Shad Khan, general manager Trent Baalke and his family, noting his relatives were “upset”.
The media did not identify the woman, who is described as a “24-year-old woman” due to the backlash the family has received since the footage was released to the public over the weekend.
The situation has also affected the woman’s employer, New Horizon Media Group, a marketing company headquartered minutes from the Meyer restaurant.
Brian Duncan, a lawyer representing the company, said he was conducting an internal investigation into the incident.
The company is not in a position “to make a decision as to her (employment) status,” Duncan told USA Today, noting that the woman was still working for New Horizon Media Group amid the investigation.
Alex Cruz, owner of New Horizon Media Group, referred to Duncan when USA Today asked for comment.
“I’m just praying that Alex doesn’t fire my daughter because she needs this job,” the mother said, adding that her daughter “had just bought a house.”
Duncan explained that the company “will undertake our internal investigation to determine what impact, if any, this has on the company and we will proceed accordingly.”
The attorney noted that New Horizon Media Group had worked for Urban Chophouse, and it is not known that the woman had previously had a relationship with Meyer.
Meyer was not disciplined by the team or the NFL, however, Jaguars owner Khan said the former Ohio State coach had a “personal commitment” to regaining “trust and respect. ” of the team.
The day before, Shelley addressed the situation on her since-deleted Twitter account, writing: “This will be my last post on Twitter. Frankly, I don’t need the hate, the vitriol, the slander, the garbage that will send me. We all make mistakes. We are all sinners. If you think not? Then throw the first stone.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars are 0-4 heading into Week 5 and host the Titans (2-2) on Sunday.
