Munchel had been apprehended earlier in the week, but Eisenhart was arrested in Tennessee on Saturday and charges updated to include the plot.
It is a notable development in the national manhunt for the perpetrators of the January 6 attack, which left five people dead, including a Capitol Police officer. Dozens have been arrested and the FBI is prosecuting hundreds of cases, often based on the images and videos the rioters posted on social media.
Prosecutors have said they plan to lay serious charges, including potentially “seditious conspiracy,” but started apprehending suspects for less serious offenses to begin building a larger case.
Although Munchel was masked in the Senate image, the FBI relied on open-source information and separate patches and symbols on his clothing, as well as surveillance footage and other video shot at the hotel where the two men were staying to identify them. They have since searched Munchel’s house and discovered the items seen in the Capitol photo, including “a distinctive Black Rifle Coffee Company hat in black color with American flag and rifle logo, black boots, pants and a shirt. black camouflage shirts and a black tactical vest with either a Punisher logo patch.
“Five pairs of flexible white cuffs were also found inside the MUNCHEL home,” the FBI noted.
According to the recently revealed case against the couple, Munchel and Eisenhart appear in video footage near a crowd who “physically attacked two Capitol Hill police officers guarding the entrance to the Senate chambers.” Eventually the officers fled and the crowd continued. Munchel and Eisenhart followed, both brandishing flexible wrists in their hands “during the chase”. The two officers escaped, according to the account of the case.
The FBI also cited a January 10 article in The Times of London citing Munchel and Eisenhart discussing the revolution.
“This country was founded on revolution. … I’d rather die a 57-year-old woman than live under oppression, “Eisenhart told the newspaper.” I prefer to die and I prefer to fight. “
