Motorola Razr foldable phone specifications include Snapdragon 710

The first smartphones with folding screens will arrive on the market in a few months, and nothing says in which direction the wind will blow. Will the foldable inward display of the Samsung Galaxy Fold captivate the hearts of consumers, or will the Huawei Mate X's folding outward display win? Motorola seems to be taking a different approach to foldable products, so the company is reporting its iconic Razr brand with a vertically foldable display. In my previous article, I detailed some of the software features of Motorola's future foldable dual-display smartphone. Now I have obtained information from a source that confirms the Razr brand and details much of the specification.

"Voyager" – The Motorola Razr 2019

The picture above shows the new logo that Motorola has designed for the return of its Razr brand. To protect our source, I removed the logo from the original image and added a plain black background. The logo belongs to the device "Voyager" that I revealed in my previous article and confirms that a Motorola Razr brand product is being created. However, we do not know if the full business name of the phone will be "Motorola Razr", "Moto Razr" or anything else with "Razr" in the title. We are sure that the phone is launched on Verizon. As a result, Verizon may have an influence on the marketing name of its version of the device.

According to the information we obtained, the Motorola Razr will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 mobile platform. The Snapdragon 710 features 8 processor cores based on Qualcomm's custom Kryo 360 architecture (2x ARM Cortex-A75 derivative). at 2.2 GHz and 6x ARM Cortex-A55 derived at 1.7 GHz). The GPU is Adreno 615 from Qualcomm. Although the chipset supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+, we do not know what kind of fast charge the Motorola Razr will offer. It's likely that the foldable smartphone will support Motorola's 27W TurboPower charge, such as the Motorola Moto G7 Plus.

We know so far two RAM and storage variants, but we do not know which version of Verizon will be available. The Motorola Razr will have 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of storage. The capacity of the battery is estimated at 2,730 mAh, although the information we have about the battery may be obsolete. The battery is much smaller than the one found in other foldable devices, but the Motorola Razr is also a smaller device than the Huawei Mate X or the Samsung Galaxy Fold, both of which manage to hold two batteries in each half.

We continue to collect information about the camera from Motorola Razr and we will update this article if we learn more details.

The main screen of "Voyager" is probably a screen resolution of 876 × 2142 6.20 inches, presumably OLED given its collapsible nature. The "closed" or secondary screen has a resolution of 600 × 800, although we do not know its dimensions. Finally, we know three different colors for the device: white, black and gold. However, we do not know how much each model will cost, which will carry Verizon, or if there is a difference in RAM / storage between colors.

As a reminder, here's what we think we know about "Voyager," the first folding phone in the new Motorola Razr lineup.

  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 710
  • RAM: 4 / 6GB
  • Storage: 64 / 128GB
  • Battery: 2,730mAh
  • Main Display: 876 × 2142 of 6.20 inches
  • Closed display: size unknown, 600 × 800
  • Colors: White, Black, Gold

If you're wondering what this device will look like, we believe that the images shared by Motorola with the World Intellectual Property Organization are accurate. The images show a phone with a foldable screen vertically accompanied by a secondary screen on the outside. We believe that Motorola will use the external display for some camera controls, such as touchpad for Google Chrome, and to provide limited access to Quick Settings thumbnails, to the Google Assistant, to Clock application, notifications and multimedia commands.

There seems to be only one rear-facing camera and one rear-facing fingerprint reader in the images, but we can not corroborate the number of cameras or the information on the fingerprint reader.

Motorola RazrWe do not have any information on the prices or availability of the Motorola Razr. The Wall Street Journal reported that the phone will start at $ 1,500. That's several hundred dollars less than the Samsung Galaxy Fold or the Huawei Mate X, but what we know so far about the specifications of the Motorola Razr is a smartphone with internal capabilities considerably less powerful than the other portables. Motorola could still surprise us with the design and the camera. We will refrain from making a judgment on the Razr until we have obtained more concrete details.
