Mount Angel fire goes to 4 alarms, destroys buildings and businesses

Nearly 120 firefighters used more than a million gallons of water to fight a blaze that destroyed several businesses in Mount Angel early Saturday.

Police first spotted the blaze in the 200 block of Main Street South at around 12:48 a.m. Saturday, the Mount Angel Police Department reported. Mount Angel Fire District firefighters found the building completely burned down.

The Mount Angel Fire District asked for help in dealing with what quickly became a four-alarm fire. Teams and engines from the Silverton Fire District, Woodburn Fire Department, Marion County Fire District, Hubbard Fire, Monitor Fire and St. Paul Fire District were dispatched to join the fight.

The fire damaged or destroyed four buildings. Affected businesses included The Blackbird Granary antique store, KP’s Harvesttime hazelnut company, Oregon-based furniture maker Hiddenbed, and stove store Wood Pellet Products. An estimate of the damage has not yet been made, and the cause of the fire remains unknown. No injuries were reported.
