Several large moving vans have been spotted at the resort town of Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, where President Trump is expected to move ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday.
At least two trucks were parked outside the complex and workers were seen moving boxes inside, WPTV reported in Palm Beach. A nearby security presence included flying helicopters and patrol boats.
Local authorities have announced road closures for several days this week. A letter to local residents said the closures were necessary for “safety and security reasons,” according to the report.
Trump is expected to leave the White House on the morning of the inauguration of the flight to Mar-a-Lago, Fox News chief White House correspondent John Roberts reported. Trump is expected to live primarily in Mar-a-Lago after he leaves office.
Trump plans to leave early and be on the ground in Palm Beach before Biden’s inauguration so he can take one final flight on Air Force One, sources told Fox News. If the flight lands after Biden’s inauguration, the aircraft’s designation would become “Special Air Mission 29000”.
The President will host a farewell event at Joint Base Andrews prior to the inauguration. He should make remarks to service members and base personnel before leaving for Florida.
Several of Trump’s White House aides are expected to continue working for him in Mar-a-Lago.
Trump has previously indicated that he will not attend Biden’s inauguration, breaking a long-standing precedent in which presidents are on hand for the transfer of power to their successor. Vice-President Mike Pence will be in attendance.
