Mozilla Partners with the News Subscription Service Scroll to create an ad-free Internet

Scroll is a new news subscription service that promises to allow you to read all your favorite news websites without advertising in exchange for a monthly subscription. The service already has big names in integrated media (including Buzzfeed, Gizmodo Media Group and Vox Media) and acquired the Nuzzel Trends app earlier this month. This week, the company announced another great partnership with Mozilla to test some of the ideas of Scroll in Firefox, via VentureBeat.

The exact details on how Scroll and Mozilla are going to work together are not yet clear – Scroll says it's still "the first days of this partnership", but VentureBeat indicates that "small groups of Firefox users will be randomly invited to share their comments" and respond to surveys with web-based advertising, at least initially.

And even if the details are not yet known, Mozilla makes sense as a partner of Scroll on paper. After all, if you are trying to replace Internet advertisements, it is probably helpful to have the help of a shipping company that must handle all of these advertisements for the consumer. Given that Mozilla in particular has taken a stand to block ad tracking, the fact that it is compatible with Scroll's alternative subscription method is also appropriate.

Scroll has not yet announced the launch of its subscription service, but the company is clearly starting to speed things up – earlier in the month, Scroll announced the purchase of Nuzzel's social media curation app.
