HOUSTON – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. It comes a day after a pro-Trump riot on the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.

Jackson Lee, a senior member of House committees on the judiciary, homeland security and budget, said in a statement: “Our Constitution was written as a guide to govern our democracy and to protect it from authoritarian control. and tyrannical. It also serves as a tool to protect our nation from foreign and domestic enemies who intend to harm our Republic. At this time in our history, our constitutional ancestors implore us to use the tools provided in this timeless document. Yesterday we saw domestic enemies inciting violence and invading people’s homes with the intention of causing harm. Enough is enough! The president has completely lost any moral authority he had and is unfit as commander-in-chief. His actions of inciting violence against his own government and against Congress as a whole warrant his dismissal. And if Administration officials refuse to invoke the 25th Amendment, I will move forward with articles of impeachment to remove him from office for the following reasons:

Donald John Trump has actively and continuously strived to undermine the institutions and essential foundations of a democratic system of government in the United States, engaging in a long series of abuses and usurpations, invariably pursuing the same goal , showing a desire to be authoritarian. unaccountable and independent leader of the people of the United States by:

  • Seek and welcome assistance from a hostile foreign power to help them win the 2016 election as President of the United States.
  • Refuse to recognize Russian interference in the internal affairs of the United States, then oppose responses from Congress and the executive branch to protect national security and United States interests from interference and aggression future of Russia.
  • Publicly conveying his interest and willingness to accept assistance from foreign powers in his attempt to win re-election as President of the United States.
  • Continually refuse to acknowledge the American people that they would accept and be bound by the verdict in the 2020 presidential election, claiming instead that any outcome in which they were not declared the winner was fraudulent, rigged and illegitimate.
  • Take active steps to prevent and undermine the ability of U.S. citizens to voice their disapproval of her continued office by exercising their rights as voters, including by abusing the U.S. Postal Service to prevent timely delivery ballots.
  • File frivolous lawsuits to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, falsely alleging widespread electoral fraud but failing to produce any evidence to support his false claims.
  • Urging and inciting his supporters to mistakenly believe that the victory in the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him and that the joint congressional meeting required by the Constitution for the purpose of counting the votes of voters and announcing the result by the President of the Senate was illegitimate and destined to complete the theft of his victory.
  • Failure to take action to protect and defend federal officials and personnel, property, buildings and institutions on January 6, 2021, at the besieged U.S. Capitol by supporters of Donald John Trump, resulting in extensive damage to state property -United and the death of at least four people.

“As the resolution clearly emphasizes and clarifies, a person ‘whose character is so marked by any act which can define a tyrant is unfit to be the leader of a free people’, and justifies impeachment and dismissal by as President of the United States. . “
