The fire aboard the MSC Lirica which started in a lifeboat was completely extinguished on Friday evening, without injuring the 51 crew members aboard the ship, according to a statement from MSC Cruises.

According to the cruise line, at 3:42 p.m. local time in Corfu, where she is currently warming up on Friday, MSC Lirica reported a fire at the MSC Maritime Support Center in London, UK.

The fire originated from one of the ship’s starboard fiberglass lifeboats on deck 6, the company said, with the blaze quickly brought under control thanks to the intervention of the ship’s two firefighters and service support. local emergency.

Operation of the incident was declared complete at 6:58 p.m. local time.

There were no injuries among the 51 crew members who were on board the vessel at the time of the incident.

According to a preliminary assessment, there was “no damage to the interior of the vessel, but only to its side due to the flames and dense black smoke caused by the fiberglass lifeboats”, MSC said.
