“ Much more than a 3 point shooter ”

The Philadelphia 76ers acquired Seth Curry primarily because he is one of the best snipers in the history of the game. He got off to a great start to the season deep, shooting almost 60% from deep. , but on Saturday it was not.

Curry got a 0 for 3 score after Saturday’s win over the Detroit Pistons, but managed to score 14 points as he became a factor in other areas. He got to the basket, he knocked down pull-ups and he got to the line.

“It’s something we said at camp – and I already knew it – I saw it in the playoffs,” said coach Doc Rivers. “Seth is more than a 3 point shooter. He’s really great at pick-and-roll and pulling out choices making games. We know that.”

Curry always wanted to show people that he could do more than just film it in depth. He’s been doing it lately and the fact that he can shoot it from depth makes it easier for him to put the ball on the ground. Once a defender comes towards him with an aggressive fence, he can put the ball to the ground and reach for the basket that way.

“The fact that he has that gun makes him an even better pick-and-roll player because they’re so on alert with him going,” Rivers added. “It opens up other things.”

Curry’s presence added layers to the Philadelphia offense and made it easier for guys like Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid to function. The fact that there are multiple ball handlers in this offense is a big help on offense.
