MUNCIE, Ind. (WTHR) – The city of Muncie announces that steel dust recycling plant projects have died.
The Muncie Redevelopment Commission announced its decision to discontinue the project on the former BorgWarner site.
In a statement posted on the Muncie City Facebook page, the city says the Muncie's Redevelopment Commission's resolution is to buy the 85-acre site in order to control what will happen in its place.
When it was decided to open a steel dust recycling plant in Muncie, many people informed their city councilors of their dissatisfaction.
This has led to community meetings and requests for additional information on the environmental impact of the plant.
The city of Muncie now plans to market the site for rehabilitation and redevelopment.
The factory remained closed and emptied for 10 years.
