My pre-season newsletter among the 25 best: Michigan No. 10, 23rd MSU

The pre-season polls are here, so let me interrupt you.

AP released Monday its first Top-25 survey of the 2019 academic season, which included schools from the state of Michigan and the state of Michigan.

For those of you who read my work last year, you know that I am one of two journalists who voted in the weekly poll. It will continue this fall, just like this chronicle in which I try to defend my ranking.

The official survey published, the Michigan No. 7 and the Michigan No. 18, is not ready. There are too many question marks with both teams at the moment.

Let's start with Michigan, a program that many have chosen to win the Big Ten, myself included. The Wolverines will launch a new offense, which is sorely lacking and makes sense for their staff. But the big question right now: what exactly will it look like and how fast will it take to freeze?

Michigan has taken an offensive stunt in recent years, even with Jim Harbaugh at the helm, and I want to see something tangible before boarding the College Football Playoff train. Could this happen? Yes, the team returns eight starters from last season, including quarterback Shea Patterson, and four starters forward – the cement of the offense.

In defense, Michigan has only five full-time starters compared to a year ago, but has many good and talented young players. The defense is more uncertain, but the coordinator Don Brown has demonstrated his ability to replace and replace in the past.

Because of all this and how the season ended last season, I chose to rank Michigan # 10 to start, behind Florida, Notre Dame and the Ohio State, among other teams, that the Wolverines have lost against last season. They will have the opportunity to tackle most of these issues this season.

With regard to Michigan State, all roads lead to this offense which was one of the worst in the country last season. Mark Dantonio stirred the chairs in the hope of producing a little more.

Will it happen? We will see. But I think this Spartans defense will be very good again, keeping the team in the games. The road matches in Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan make the arrival of Big Ten difficult as well.

I am not yet sold on MSU, that's why I've ranked the Spartans 23rd to start. We should know from the beginning if this offense is capable of a jump and if MSU could play the role of spoiler in the Big Ten this fall.

Until then, classifying them much higher is stupid. (Before some of you recoil, keep in mind that 10 of the 62 electors of the PA have chosen not to classify the MSU at all.)
