MyHeritage’s “ Deep Nostalgia ” technology gives new life to old photos

One of the big companies in the family history industry has developed new technology that turns still images into moving images.

Now people are using MyHeritage’s “Deep Nostalgia” photo animation feature to bring all kinds of historical photos to life.

MyHeritage presented Deep Nostalgia last week at RootsTech Connect, the world’s largest family history conference.

“Do you sometimes wonder how your ancestors moved, smiled and looked like in real life? Now you can see your ancestors from past generations like never before! MyHeritage posted in a blog on February 25. “This new addition to our photo tool suite produces a realistic depiction of how a person from an old photo might have moved and looked like if captured on video.”

This feature has helped some to feel a deeper connection with their lost loved ones.

A person tweeted: “My mother died of cancer in 2017. … I have never had happy videos of her. It’s from a photo of her, a teenage girl, all smiles. I’m not crying hysterically or anything.

Another person identified as “Almost Known HistoryTweeted a photo of their grandfather as a young man in military uniform with the message: “It’s so weird to see him brought back to life – I never met my grandfather, but I used to imagine a young soldier standing by my door smiling just before I fell asleep.

Since the announcement, Deep Nostalgia has grown in popularity as people have used social media to share animated photos of famous personalities and artwork, including Mona Lisa, Ludwig van Beethoven, Abraham Lincoln, Frédéric douglass, Oscar Wilde, Nicola Tesla and Albert Einstein, using hashtags #Deep nostalgia and #My heritage.

There are four steps to using Deep Nostalgia:

1. Download the MyHeritage app on iOS or Android.
2. Identify yourself.
3. Upload the photo you want to animate.
4. Tap the image and then tap the animation icon. After a short wait, you can download and share with friends.
