The retailer said in a statement Tuesday that it was halting sales of “a number of underperforming items and brands,” including MyPillow. Bed bath and beyond (BBBY) said it was part of their larger plan to sell more internal brands when they debut this spring.
Lindell, a major Republican donor, said in an interview with a right-wing broadcaster that retailers were “scared” and accused “left-wing groups” of pressuring retailers to abandon his product. He said Wayfair, Kohl’s and HEB have also stopped selling MyPillow products. The three companies did not respond to requests for comment from CNN Business.
Despite the violence on Capitol Hill two weeks ago, Lindell has stood firm with his support for President Donald Trump. He called the attack “very peaceful” and blamed “undercover antifa masquerading as Trump” for the chaos, according to the New York Times. “Donald Trump will be our president for the next four years,” he said earlier this month.
Lindell was spotted in the White House last Friday with pages of notes that appear to describe a range of recommendations, including the installation of a Trump loyalist as acting director of the CIA. He also presented other false conspiracy theories that Trump has echoed since the election.
Founded in 2004, MyPillow has grown beyond selling pillows and now offers a variety of household items and even face masks. The private company has sold more than 40 million products, many of which are “direct to consumers” through its website and hotline, Bloomberg reported. MyPillow is a regular advertiser on right-wing television networks, including Fox News and Newsmax.
The Better Business Bureau is currently giving MyPillow an âFâ for its confusing price and reduction tactics. The pillow itself also got low marks from Consumer Reports because it’s too lumpy.
