The dazzling new version of Microsoft Flight Simulator is finally out, and virtual pilots explore a realistic and detailed world algorithmically generated from map data. This procedural technique makes it possible to fly anywhere on planet Earth, but it results in quirks when the system misinterprets the data. Sights like a weird and vaguely menacing skyscraper looming above Melbourne’s suburbs.

The place was quickly identified as Fawkner, a mid-century development that Melburnians say is boring and a bit run down, but a good place to access the city center to and from some excellent South Asian restaurants. They confirm that there is no thin and sinister tower looming 300 yards on the corner of Lorne and Wembley.
Google Street View approves their assessment …
