Mythical Yokai abounds in Nioh's new Gameplay trailer 2 – PlayStation.Blog

Hi the fans! As promised, I'm back with more information on the demo expected for the Nioh 2 consumer, which is playable this week at the Tokyo Game Show! To whet your appetite and give you an overview of what we are presenting, we have also prepared a new trailer and a host of new pieces of information and visuals to commemorate this event.

At the beginning of this adventure, we present you a new beautiful region that we call the village of cursed flowers. This is the first level of Nioh 2 and, as its name suggests, it is an amalgam of natural beauty and threatening peril. These disparate themes play a major role in Nioh 2 … but we'll talk about it later.

Toukichiro, impressed by the protagonist's prowess, speaks passionately about his dream of success, believing that tumultuous weather and creepy yokai will work to his advantage.

As developers creating a game based on Japanese aesthetics, we have always hoped to design a level covered with cherry blossoms in full bloom. This brings us a lot of joy and satisfaction to finally make it a reality in Nioh 2. Fortunately for us, a well known area for sakura trees called Chidorigafuchi is right next to Team Ninja studio! This allowed us to refine our visuals with a lot of detail and precision.

The Yokai are an essential cornerstone of this franchise, and we carefully consider adding these mythical creatures to the game. When choosing the new Yokai to implement, we go far beyond choosing the most popular versions or the most known. Instead, we meticulously select each creature based on its unique characteristics to effectively complement specific integrations. This approach ensures a wide range of variations and possibilities, which is extremely important to keep players engaged and stimulated!

By revealing her true face and guardian spirit, who is this woman who shows great hatred for yokai?

Speaking of Yokai, our latest demo features Mezuki – a terrifying beast with a grotesque mug and wielding a deadly weapon in the shape of a saw. His debut should make a strong impression with players testing their Yokai combat skills at TGS. A tip for those who seek to mingle with Mezuki: When they are in the realm of darkness, the ruthless Yokai become even fiercer and more powerful. Walk carefully and hit effectively.

Players will also encounter smaller creatures called Sudama (Sudama are actually Kodama transformed into Yokai) in The Cursed Flower Village. As in their previous incarnation, they are not violent, but they display a relentless thirst for material goods. To give some perspective, the background image of our key art represents the contrast between the world of men and the kingdom of Yokai, central theme of the game and motivation of our new protagonist of the half-breeds. Given this duality, Sudama was created as the antithesis of Kodama.

Magami is a guardian spirit who takes the form of a wolf and who is known to be a close relative of the spirits of the mountain. He hunts vandalizing animals, so he is revered as the sacred protector of the harvest and wealth. It is also said to provide fire protection.

There is so much more information about Nioh 2 that I would like to share, but I will keep them for next time. As we prepare for the finalization of the game and aim for our launch in early 2020, I want to leave you a special message from our producer, Yasuda-san:

"Since we received comments from the closed alpha session, we are working diligently on the game with great enthusiasm. To be honest, we had to overcome many trial and error during the process of designing mechanisms of action such as "special moves", "Yokai movements" and the visual presentation of the "Dark Kingdom". However, we are now very satisfied with where we are at. It goes without saying that the improvements will not stop until the launch and we will continue to keep you informed of our progress. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months, and take advantage of TGS 'exciting new demo and new content that we have prepared. "
