N.F.L. Predictions of the week 2: Our choices against the spread

Patriotes in dolphins, 13h, CBS

Line: Patriots -18.5 | Total: 48

From the point of view of football, there is little to say. The defending champion of N.F.L. (New England) has just fought against a quality team (Pittsburgh) and a team that has been accused of openly charrette (Miami) has just finished a match in which it has allowed more points in a NFL game since 2012.

The Patriots (1-0) are better in all respects than the Dolphins (0-1), and everyone knows it. So, how can odds makers find a reason to worry about what should be a blowout? A comic gap will be enough.

N.F.L. not favored The team has covered a gap of more than 16 points on the road and the Patriots are asked to cover 18.5 points (a figure that stood at an opening gap of 15 points, and another that could still increase according to plausible scenarios like the Dolphins some decent players remaining to leave to become heavyweight drivers). But there is a reason why gigantic points are spreading on the road are not usually covered, and this has to do with factors such as motivation, touchdowns, time lost, injuries and other factors. Will New England win? Almost certainly, yes. Could New England cover? Yes. Will they? Probably not. To choose: Dolphins +18.5

Cardinals with Ravens, 1 pm, Fox

Line: Corbels -13.5 | Total: 46

There are two games this week in which two quarters are Heisman Trophy winners: this one and Tampa Bay against Carolina. After Lamar Jackson's explosion against Miami last week and Kyler Murray's fourth quarterback against Detroit, it's the most exciting match.

The big questions are whether the link between Jackson and Marquise (Hollywood) Brown of the Ravens (1-0) is really so strong and if Murray can understand how to reproduce the fourth quarter of last week hoping that everyone forgets how much the Cardinals (0-0-1) have been looking for the first 45 minutes of their opening game. Baltimore, a playoff team a year ago, is rightly favored, but Arizona high school will be much more active than Miami to make life difficult in Jackson. To choose: Cardinals +13.5

Eagles at Falcons, 8:20 pm, NBC

Line: Eagles -1.5 | Total: 52.5

The Falcons (0-1) need a raise after an attack after losing 12 points in a loss to Minnesota last week. A home game against the Eagles (1-0), which appeared vulnerable in defense last week, may well correspond to what the doctor has prescribed. In truth, these two teams have been pretty frustrating since last year. That should not change, but Matt Ryan is 57-29 at home, so Atlanta should not be an underdog. To choose: Falcons +1.5
