TWO Cebuanos were hailed as great champions at the 22nd World Championships in the Performing Arts (WCOPA).
M Squared, the Cebu guitar duo, was declared Grand World Champion of the World Instrumentalists last Saturday.
The talented pair includes Maxwell Soller, a full-time instructor at the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), and Miguel Ibaseta, a Grade 12 Josenian.
M Squared is based on their first names. They've been a guitar duo for eight months since the WCOPA auditions.
"Maxwell and I just met up around October last year because of a mutual friend," Ibaseta said. "Maxwell's friend referred me to him by seeing my talent playing the guitar." After about a week, he posted the WCOPA auditions on Facebook and I became interested as soon as I released him. I saw him, I sent him a private message about WCOPA and told him that I would audit.And finally we decided we were going to audition together. "

Soller said the biggest challenge for him was to compete with talents who already had world-class experience and experiences. Despite the pressure, they have maintained their concentration and discipline in all their practices.

Satisfaction was everywhere in the guitar duet when they were declared as great finalists because people already called them world-class artists. The Philippine team will bring back a total of 286 medals, plaques and badges for this year: 55 gold medals, 83 silver medals, 81 bronze medals, 34 division champion plaques and 33 semi-finalist badges.
