Uganda: Museveni Retires 11 UPDF Senior Officers

Kampala – President Museveni officially withdrew 11 UPDF officers yesterday during a ceremony held at State House Entebbe

Officers, some of whom joined the Army in the 1960s, were promoted in March. 19659004] At the time of their retirement, most of them were not on active duty. Here are their brief profiles

Maj Gen Kasirye Gwanga. He joined the army in 1972 as an officer of artillery. When the NRA captured power, he commanded an artillery unit. He was presidential advisor for military affairs

Maj Gen Hussein Adda. He was an artillery commander in Uganda Freedom Movement of Dr. Andrew Kayiira. After Kayiira reached an agreement with the NRA in 1986, Adda was appointed director of supply in the NRA.

Maj Gen Joshua Masaba. He joined the army in 1966, commanded the air force and led the Air Force training school. He also served as Chief of Staff of the Army.

Maj Gen Ali Kiiza. He joined the Army in 1966 as Airforce Cadet. Until four years ago, he was the chief presidential pilot. He flew the last five presidents of Uganda, including Idi Amin

Brig Olanya Ojara. He was UNLA commander in Masaka barracks as the NRA intensified his attacks. Later, he joined the NRA, became a colonel where he stayed for over 16 years.

Maj Gen John Mateeka. He joined the Ugandan army in the 1960s and in 2004 he became president of the First Division Court.

Brig Stephen Othieno. When he was promoted to Colonel, he held the rank for 12 years until three months ago. At the time of his imprisonment in 2004, he was Deputy Chief of Staff and Administration

Brig Mark Ayiasi Kodili. He joined the army in 1962. He joined FRONASA in 1978, then UFM in 1979 and NRA in 1986. He was colonel from 2003 to March 2018.

Brig Yowasi Kiiza. He has long been chief of signals of the UPDF before becoming head of the Reserve in 2011. In 2012 he was appointed chairman of the UPDF Contracts Committee

Brig Jacob Musajjawaza. He was Director of Supply before being promoted to Chief of Logistics and Engineering in December 2003.

Maj Gen James Ssebagala. At the time of his retirement, he was the commander of the Nakasongola army base
