June 11, 2018 – The Ghanaian battalion of UNIFIL (GHANBATT) saw a change of command of its force of 850 men operating in peace in southern Lebanon last week.
At a transfer ceremony of authority the battalion headquarters at Al Qawzah on July 6, the outgoing commander-in-chief, Lt. Col. William Nortey, handed over to his successor, Lieutenant-Colonel Fiifi Deegbe. Newly arrived peacekeepers will serve with UNIFIL for one year
In his address, Brigadier General Paolo Fabbri, commander of Sector West, noted that Ghana was one of the largest contributor countries in the world. troops since 1978. the pursuit of peace, security and stability in southern Lebanon
The GHANBATT area of responsibility includes a 23-kilometer stretch of the Blue Line in its area of responsibility in South Lebanon [19659005]. the largest number of women peacekeepers in Lebanon.
