Last week was particularly bloody in Nigeria. The magnitude of the many tragedies that have struck the nation has all of us crushed and visceral. From the Plateau to the states of Cross River, Ebonyi and Lagos, acts of violence have left countless deaths and thousands of displaced. In the midst of all the mourning that has invaded Nigeria, the President's Special Advisor on Media and Advertising, Femi Adesina, has decided to embellish the air more. He dodged the substance of the anxiety of Nigerians to struggle with the congressional mirror image of all the progressives – the Peoples Democratic Party – to turn tragic deaths into politics. Adesina has launched her fury against her counterparts by resorting to the most insane defense ever. He compared the number of deaths under the PDP with that of the APC before declaring that the latter was (still) better.
But, first, rather than a presidential spokesman comparing the figures of the dead to mark political goals, why compare the statistics of life under each administration? Why politicize death when you can politicize life? In other words, instead of telling us the number of deaths, why not provide the figures of those who live and are doing better under your administration? If our society was healthy, that's the kind of data to argue in a political exchange. Not the number of dead, but those who have prospered. Has the death of Nigerians become so commonplace for them that it is not worth more than a mere bargaining point between two opponents? They mentally suppressed empathy for the pain and trauma of the victims, turned their destiny into mere numbers and used it for self-glorification. This is a level of insensitivity from Boko Haramic that can only come from a government that has ripped directly to problems that decimate our Nigerian lives. In this way, they easily forget the weaknesses and failures of our institutions and the way they kill us. The only thing that counts for them is just the final count, not the violence that caused the deaths. If they treat life as a treasure of inestimable value, they would not be content to throw around such morbid figures, as if what was lost was the life of lab mice. They would treat each death as an unquantifiable loss and not as a series of depersonalized events that could be grouped into an empirical set.
The fact that someone like Adesina is the president's proxy is disturbing. He and the other assistants, such as Lauretta Onochie, Garba Shehu, Ogunlesi Tolu, Bashir Ahmed, or even Lai Muhammed, supposedly see the president every day because of the nature of their work. With their access to her inner rooms, they can listen to her unfiltered thinking and feel her passion before going out to speak on her behalf. What they remove from his presence – both in both words and position – is what they report to Nigerians about their social media posts. Presidential spokesmen are substitutes for the president, extending his personality in public. It is therefore likely to blur the attitude of Buhari towards Nigerians in relation to the actions of these aids. Their constant antagonism with the Nigerians and their behavior with the public must be indicative of Buhari's private contempt for all Nigerians. If they are so insensitive to declare that Buhari is better than the previous PDP presidents, because there are not enough deaths under his administration, it means that they do echoing the way Buhari deals with the massacres in Nigeria.
The next president after Muhammadu Buhari would do better to be much more cautious in choosing spokespersons. If we calculate the many flaws of this administration, one of the key aspects where they drop people is the choice of their spokespersons. Those who speak for this government are pathetic clowns and a band of incorrigible reprobates. They are constantly confused, combative, obtuse and lack all diligence. These assistants, who are incidentally more numerous than the economists and strategic thinkers of the Buhari government, were probably chosen for their work because their renowned belligerence serves the intentions of a government that wants to divert the attention of citizens . When they speak on questions, they appear as ill-programmed zombies chatting nonsense.
To a certain extent, Adesina had a point against the PDP. Honestly, if the PDP were ashamed or meaningless, they would stop quarreling over the administrative ineptitude. In the 16 years that Nigeria has spent under the PDP, the country has bled constantly due to its ethical and institutional corruption. The acts of violence that Nigeria suffered during this period did not begin in 2015. The PDP has no moral basis for claiming that they care about the fate of the deceased by stating a period of mourning national. From 1999 to 2015, they used power solely for selfish and deviant purposes, leaving Nigerians with the weight of a government that only existed by name. It was also under their watch that terrorism was allowed to escalate because it suited the aims of their cowardly leader; He used violence as proof that some people wanted to make Nigeria "ungovernable" for him. "The PDP has nothing useful to say or offer anyone on the failure of leadership as they embody it.

El-Rufai and other members of the APC, driven by their thirst for power, went on a rampage and mocked Jonathan and the PDP for a long time. One would have thought that they cared sincerely, not knowing that they were just struggling to replace the PDP and mimic its ills. You can reproduce their words today, replace "Buhari" with "Jonathan" and "APC" with "PDP", and not one thing would be different. Why are they crying now that they are fed on their own fecal matter?
That said, the fact that Nigeria has passed between these two series of indiscernible antics, a degenerate PDP and a completely irresponsible APC, makes me feel sorry for myself and my country. Between the two, human lives have become a table tennis ball to pass from hand to hand. I challenge them to change their political game from life to death. Tell us which of you has improved the education well enough so that you are confident that children are attending public schools. Tell us about the roads and hospitals that you have built and how you have improved the quality of human life index. Do not tell us how many died; Tell us how many have lived, prospered and still flourish under your government. If you can not do that, why not sink into the pool of shame?
