SAN FRANCISCO – Bruce Bochy must have had a big surprise when he checked his phone on Sunday afternoon.

After days talking about the need to change the team, Bochy flew to New York to attend the Trevor Hoffman Hall of Fame Induction. His team finally took advantage, Buster Posey leading the offensive charge in an 8-5 win over the Brewers. The Giants ended a four-game losing streak and took part in a game against the Dodgers, who came out of the competition in Atlanta.

Here are the details …

– Pablo Sandoval gave a thrill to the crowd with a two-point hat-trick that added in advance in fifth, then he ran home to beat the throw Christian Yelich on a medium ball to the right. But Sandoval caught on his right hamstring as he rose and he was replaced by Austin Slater in the top of the sixth.

– Slater has only made three starts in the last three weeks, but he took advantage of the opportunity. He made an athletic clash at the canoe bar in the top of the seventh and then cautiously tossed the ball to the first one where Sam Dyson dubbed Yelich, who had run on the play. In the bottom of the inning, Slater shot a single right.

– Junior Guerra walked Gorkys Hernandez, Andrew Suarez and Andrew McCutchen with one on the third. Posey cleared the bases with a double of the gap in center left. Until that swing, Posey did not have a three-RBI game all season. Posey had four hits in the afternoon.

– Gorkys Hernandez smoked a ball in the net in the center of the field in the fourth quarter. The homer had an exit speed of 107 mph, the second fastest of the year for Hernandez. It was the hardest of his 12 bombs.

– Andrew McCutchen was removed at the top of the eighth. We did not really know what was bothering him, but he took a long time to leave the field after his fight at the bottom of the sixth.
