A leading Nigerian advocate (SAN) and human rights activist, Chief Mike Ozekhome accused the federal government of paying for services in its fight against corruption.
He alleged that those in Congress Corrupt practices or the other were treated as sacred cows.
Ozekhome also called for a radical overhaul of institutional structures to allow democracy to thrive in the country.
Presentation of an article on "The Bench, Bar Investigating Agencies and Anti-Corruption Campaign in Nigeria" in Uyo on Tuesday, as part of the activities to mark the week 2018, by the Nigerian Bar Association Uyo branch, Nigeria's senior attorney accused the federal government of hiding under the charges of fighting corruption to weaken the institutions established by law while raising "strongmanism" to avoid the probe .
He said that the federal government has continued to set up its anti-corruption agencies. He said the security forces had been pushed by the government to override their constitutional laws. the system had continued to sweep under the carpet the glaring cases of fraud against those who serve under it.

He also denounced the wave of attacks on the judiciary by the federal government saying: "The deliberate attempt of the executive to subdue the judiciary by launching attacks on judicial officers is obvious and to a large extent the daring that existed in the arm. The humiliation of service judges by the executive power is one of the methods by the government to create an atmosphere of fear, which will allow it to conduct its business with serious impunity and total disregard of the rule of Right, but Uncontrolled by Other Arms of Government
"The government seems to derive its joy by breaking established laws and rules.There are blatant abuses of the rule of law and blatant impunity in the whole country, the judiciary is no longer the last hope of the common man, since it is obvious these days that the people at the head of the prefers the rule of force, who is foreign to democracy, rather than observing the rule of law embedded in it.
