Prime Minister Andrew Holness arrived in Namibia yesterday for what his office declared to be the first official visit of a Jamaican government leader to this country.

A statement from Prime Minister's Office (OPM) Mr. Holness was greeted with traditional festivities at the Hosea Kutako Namibian International Airport by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Corporation Netumbo Nandi-Ndtaitwah ; Pohamba Shifeta, Minister of the Environment and Tourism; Christine Hoebes, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation; and other dignitaries.

Holness is accompanied by the Minister of Culture, Olivia Grange; High Commissioner of Jamaica to South Africa Angella Comfort; Shorna-Kay Richards, Director of Bilateral Relations at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; honorary lawyer of Jamaica in Namibia, Professor Earl Taylor; and Dr. Julius Garvey, son of Jamaican national hero Marcus Garvey.

The OPM said that Holness made a brief courtesy call with Nandi-Ndtaitwah, after which he was transported to the Namibian State House, where he had a short meeting with "The two leaders expressed their sincere appreciation for the close ties between Jamaica and Namibia and spoke of the history of cooperation between the two countries as part of the struggle for the independence of Namibia, "said the release OPM
