NEW YORK (AP) – Devin Mesoraco scored a brace early in the game and made a heads-up defense that helped Zack Wheeler and the New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 6-3 on Tuesday evening.
Michael Conforto started a two-run circuit, extending his recent tear to the plate, and Wheeler (4-6) made seven innings to win his second consecutive start. Prior to that, the right-hander made 13 trips without a win on April 29 in San Diego – the longest winless period for a 20-year-old Mets runner-up.
Before the match, New York placed Yoenis Cespedes on the 10-day list again deactivated. The team said it was waiting for a second opinion before deciding if the often injured hitter needs a two-foot surgery that might require a recovery of eight to ten months.

Manuel Margot initially called to the plate on the Myers single in the third. Although it seemed to be the third out of the inning, Mesoraco was in third place in case Carlos Asuaje was easily labeled as he relaxed in the basic path for what seemed like a fourth useless exit.
