Namibia: Geingob calls for the unity of the AU

Windhoek – President Hage Geingob warned African heads of state not to be divided along linguistic and regional lines with regard to African Union initiatives ( AU).

Geingob Last week, at the 31st Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Nouakchott (Mauritania), Heads of State and Government of the African Union have questioned the spirit of unity of the Union. The meeting also discussed the institutional reforms of the AU, the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) and the Report on the State of Peace and Security on the Continent. Report of AU Commission President Moussa Faki Mahamat on the issue of Western Sahara.

The Summit agreed on the need to complete the AU institutional reforms, reduce the budget and the African Union, and approved the candidacy of Louise Mushikiwabo,

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Rwanda to the post of Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie

Geingob also signed the ACFTA Agreement, describing the initiative as a catalyst for regional integration , essential for creating regional value chains, and crucial for the integration of Namibia and Africa into world trade.

Geingob also met Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa on the sidelines of the summit to discuss the political situation there.

Geingob also participated in the 6th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy Initiative for Africa (AREI), to which Namibia submitted two financing projects and whose Namibia is the Southern African Development Community (SADC Representative)

Giving the vote of thanks on behalf of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, Geingob congratulated the Leaders and the government for the spirit of unity during the deliberations.
