Paul Rudd, larger than life but still kind

Paul Rudd came to talk about a lot of nothing

"I can not tell you anything," he said, explaining the confidential clauses that prohibited him from disclosing more than a glimmer of the story and the techno-magic behind "Ant-Man and the Wasp".

"I feel bad for you," he added, unleashing the dazzling smile of the cool guy immediately recognizable to fans of "Clueless," "This Is 40" and "I love you, man "- the one with the extremes almost imperceptibly twisted into the jokey way that makes you question," he really? "

Here's what we know: As this sequel begins, ex-con Scott Lang (Mr. Rudd), who becomes the tiny Ant-Man thanks to a costume invented by Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), is under house arrest for breaking the laws that govern superheroes. But after surviving the quantum field of the original film, Scott is fired with Pym's daughter, Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), equipped with the wasp, with wings and blasters, to save his mother and the missing woman from Pym . Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer).

Riding the wave of women's empowerment, it's one of the few times a superhero woman has landed in the title of a Marvel movie

"Ant-Man and the Wasp, we are team," Rudd said. "She is, in the first film, someone who I think was probably so much better suited for the job than I was and was finally given the means to be who she was born to be who is a badass and the legitimate heir to the throne. "

Natty in a crisp summer outfit at an Argentinean bistro in TriBeCa, just around the corner where he lives with his wife, Julie, and their children, Jack, 13, and Darby, 8, Mr. Rudd, 49, spoke after his mid-life incursion into superheroes, the spoils of fame and the burden of being so damn nice.

Here are edited excerpts from the conversation.

I read that you do not have As the interview process

I will be honest with you: I never feel totally at the # I feel comfortable talking about myself in this kind of context, and there is always a kind of filter. I have done it for so many years now that I wonder if my own story is even more true or if I am just outside the answers that I've given in the interviews. Like, is that really how it started? Is it really what I feel about things or is it because I answered this question once and now it has become true? No, I do not like it but it's really part of the concert, is not it?

That's when you're a superhero. Or do you prefer the term "figure of action"?

I consider myself a figure of action in real life and a superhero in the false life.

How are we behaving in this area? middle of your career?

I hope not. If that is the case, we have just predicted my death. [Laughing] I was very excited about that. It was so out of the left field and something so different from everything I did, and I thought it would be the first thing my kids could watch.

My career, it's weird. I have really been on film sets and have looked around me and realized that I was the veteran of the group. It's just happened without me noticing it. But when I look back, I realize that my career has had several turns left. Before "Anchorman" happened, I'd never really been in comedies like this, so the entire Apatow chapter [Judd] of my career is a left turn. As an actor, I've always wanted to do different roles and different genres and things that interested me but certainly not the same thing.

And then you ended up helping write the screenplay for the original and this sequel. What did you bring that was not already there?

All good things. It will work very well in print. The ironic humor and sarcasm

I imagine that there is a whole regime of training and diet for such a role.

While we were shooting, I ate a lot more salmon than anyone else. no one should eat and a lot of beets. Beets are something that came to me as an adult. I love them. I have never eaten them like a kid. There was always something too intimidating, maybe just that the color was bleeding everywhere. And I think of things in terms of cardio, like any type of exercise where you sweat to get your heart rate up and maybe an hour of weight training. Oh my God, listen to me. I hate myself now. If I start talking in terms of lats and delts and reps and sets, kill me.

Someone called the last Hasbro figurine the most realistic likeness of your life . Is your own toy the pinnacle of success?

Someone showed me a picture where he smiles, is not it? I have a Mr. Potato Mr. Ant-Man head. And one of the coolest things was the silhouette of Lego. I grew up playing with Lego and my kids have Lego, and that one stopped me in my tracks. I was also in a New York Times crossword game. I was an answer and it was amazing. I love crossword puzzles and I do them, and then do the puzzle and find out myself was … there have been a few moments where you are like, "You know what? It works" and it was any of them

Did you immediately recognize yourself as the answer to the question?

And if I did not do it? I asked Judd I thought the question was about Wynonna Judd No, I have it … To be fair to someone who had alerted me and said, "Dude, you have 21 Across!"

You are famously friendly, even the bartender has said that.Is this getting boring?

There is something a little milpetoast and benign about this In regards to sympathy, I do not think I have more than most people but I try not to be rude.I like when people are polite and kind to others, I just think life is t so hard, why make it harder?
