The last time Jake Arrieta faced the Los Angeles Dodgers, he launched seven scoreless innings on May 29 and lowered his season ERA to 2.16.
Arrieta (7-6, 4.47 ERA) has had some struggles since, but will try to get back on track on Wednesday afternoon as the Philadelphia Phillies welcome the Dodgers.
Right-handed Walker Buehler (4-2, 3.45) will be on the mound for the Dodgers while the teams play less than 12 hours Trevor Plouffe gave the Phillies a 7-4 win by beating a three-point homer the 16th round of Enrique Hernandez.
Arrieta has a WHIP of 5.06 and 1.417 in nine starts since the beginning of June. He had allowed just four earned runs in his first three starts in July, but the 2015 Cy Young Trophy winner struggled to make the start in the second half.
He dropped five points (four earned runs) on six hits and three walks in only 3 1/3 innings against the San Diego Padres last Friday. The Phillies rallied for an 11-5 win, but it was the second time Arrieta had failed to pass four innings in his last seven starts.
"I have not really had much tonight," Arrieta told MLB.com after the start. "The things with which I was in the area were either too high or the things that were breaking did not have the action I needed."

Arrieta will try to win the Phillies' victory after Plouffe completed a five-hour, 55-minute marathon and used eight raises.
Yasmani Grandal continued his strong series of July. The Dodgers receiver opened the scoring on Monday and went on with two more home runs on Tuesday – one on each side of the plate. Grandal has six successful games in 12 starts this month
