It was a busy year for the British royal family, with the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, royal tours and countless official engagements. And last week marked another important event for the Windsors, the baptism of Prince Louis. Although it was an intimate and private occasion, Kensington Palace has now published Prince Louis's baptismal photos, and wow, they are probably the cutest photos you'll see all day – scratching that, this year . Louis, the third child of Prince William and Kate Middleton behind Prince George and Princess Charlotte, was baptized by Archbishop Justin Welby at the Royal Chapel of St James Palace on Monday, July 9, reports the BBC . It was a relatively quiet affair, with only a few members of the royal family and the Middletons present, alongside the six godparents of Prince Louis: Nicholas van Cutsem, Guy Pelly, Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, Laura Meade, Robert Carter, and Lucy Middleton .
Whew. Seriously, it's a lot of godfathers.
Although there are some photos published shortly after the ceremony, the official Twitter account of Kensington Palace published four unpublished photographs taken at baptism on Sunday, July 15th. The pictures were taken in the morning room. and the Clarence House Garden following service, and were taken by photographer Matt Holyoak, who has some form of work with the royal family. (Indeed, he was also the photographer who took pictures to commemorate the 70th wedding anniversary of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh last year.)
The first image shows the Windsor families and Middleton together, with William, Kate, George, Charlotte and Louis sitting in the front row, and Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince Charles, Carole and Michael Middleton, Pippa and James Matthews, and James Middleton standing behind them.
But, for the other shots?
Well, the second photo published represents only the royal family, Markle appearing in his first official royal family since his marriage.
The third picture is another first, marking the first official portrait of the Prince William and Kate family to five since Louis' arrival earlier this year. Meanwhile, the fourth provides an intimate snapshot of the mother and baby, with Kate rocking Louis in these beautiful gardens of Clarence House.
But is there a fifth secret crack?
Well, sort of.
On Monday, Kensington Palace uploaded another photo of Kate and a happy baby Louis in Clarence House's garden on Instagram – and it really gives me all the feel.
But, although all these pictures are super pretty and I'm crying for sure on each of them later in the day, an important question remains: why the hell are the Queen and Prince Phillip missing? at royal baptism? Pictures?
Well, the Press Association reports that the Queen and Prince Philip jumped out of the event some time ago. "The decision [for the Queen and Prince Philip to miss Louis’s christening] was not made for health reasons," Buckingham Palace said in a statement. "And it is understood that the Queen and the Cambridges agreed some time ago."
Nevertheless, in spite of her absence, the queen was totally carried away in one of the royal baptismal puzzles. But. How? Well, look again at the first picture, and you'll see that just behind Papa Middleton's head is an oil-on-canvas portrait of the Queen, which was painted by Michael Noakes between 1972 and 1973.
So Long, Photoshop . A fallen cloth is the new way to fall into an event that you have not attended. All is Queen Elizabeth.
