"Wait, how many of us are here?"
Spider-Man: In The Spider-verse will be presented at Sony's Comic Con panel this Friday and the animated film features several versions of Spider-Man
The title is based on the Spider-Verse Marvel Comics event 2014-2015, which saw just about every spider-fueled character violating their Dimensional Barriers to Battle Morlun and the heirs – a group of beings determined to slaughter them all.
The trailers give us no sense that the film will stick to the story beyond the interdimensional appearance, but let's dive from the story of the confirmed characters and rumors in front of the Comic Con panel.
Peter Parker
We do not need to explain this guy, is not it? Bitten by a radioactive spider, uncle fired, "with great power there must also be a great responsibility" – you know it.
It will be played by Jake Johnson (of New Girl Renown) and acts as a mentor to Miles, whom we see visiting Peter's Grave in the first trailer (probably it will be taught by a parallel Peter universe). Aunt May will also appear, expressed by Lily Tomlin.
Miles Morales
This guy just uses the name Spider-Man, suggesting that his universe Peter Parker is dead or does not exist in the movie. The first is the case of Miles' comic counterpart, who succeeded Peter's apparent disappearance in the Marvel Ultimate Universe in 2011.
The Brooklyn Teen (played in the movie by Shameik Moore) was created by writer Brian Michael Bendis Sara Pichelli and has had his own comic series quite regularly since his debut in Ultimate Fallout # 4. After Bendis left Marvel for DC in May, Miles' solo book took a break – expect to come back in time for this movie.
There is also a cartoon precedent for Miles in another Peter. They met for the first time in the Spider-Men mini-series 2012, which sees them confronting Mysterio
. His parents, Rio Morales (Luna Lauren Velez) and Jefferson Davis (Brian Henry Tyree) appear in the trailer.
The character will also appear in the next PS4 game Spider-Man but the nature of his role remains mysterious.
Spider-Gwen
This character comes from a universe where Gwen Stacy was bitten by a radioactive spider instead of Peter. In the main Marvel Universe, Gwen is best known for her death at the hands of Green Goblin in Amazing Spider-Man # 121 – a defining moment in the comics of superheroes.
Fortunately, this version of Gwen (voiced in the movie by Hailee Steinfeld) avoided this spell and took the name of Spider-Woman. His comic book adventures saw him taking familiar characters with twists, like a corrupt version of Matt Murdock / Daredevil.
Created by writer Jason Latour and artist Robbi Rodriguez, she appeared for the first time in Edge of Spider-Verse # 2 and her striking design earned her a Spider-Gwen series in course, but it ended Wednesday after its 34th issue
However, it will get a new series called "Ghost-Spider" and will also be among the central characters of the upcoming animated series Marvel Rising: Initiation .
Spider-Man Black
This Peter Parker of an alternative timeline is quite different from the hero we are used to, since it is from 1933 and fights the gangsters of the Great Depression.
The 1930s Peter was created by writers David Hine and Fabrice Sapolsky, with the artist Carmine Di Giandomenico. He made his first appearance in 2009 Spider-Man Black # 1. Unlike the other characters we watched, he did not have a current series – his story was told in an eponymous miniseries and his sequel, Eyes Without a Face. Both lasted four issues.
Players will know him from 2010 Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, where he was voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes – who played a more traditional Peter in the 90s animation series. Has seen Spider-Men team up with three other parallel universes
This film tells of Nicolas Cage's role, much to Hine's joy
"I'm delighted that it's Nicolas Cage, "the writer told ScreenGeek. "It's a real fan of comics!"
Cage gets to live all his comic book dreams this year, since he will finally play at Superman in "Teen Titans Go! To The Movies".
Spider-Ham
File this one under "rumor" for now, but it is reported that John Mulaney will play the Spider-Ham pork.
Peter Porker is a character parody created by writer Tom DeFalco and artist Mark Armstrong, and made his first appearance in Marvel Tails in 1983 with Peter Porker's Spectacular Spider-Ham # 1. Wicked
We know that Liev Schreiber will perform the Kingpin, also known as Wilson Fisk. Kingpin will be familiar to fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe as Daredevil's nemesis in the Netflix show where he is played by Vincent D Onofrio.
This crime boss was created by the writer Stan Lee and the artist John Romita Sr. for his first appearance in the comic in 1967 Amazing Spider-Man # 50. Kingpin is a recurring villain since then, but the current status quo of Marvel Comics has appointed the democratically elected mayor of New York, and he has threatened Daredevil with all the resources that this office brings.
is the Prowler. The first person to take this identity was Hobie Brown, in Amazing Spider-Man # 78 from 1969, and he became an ally of Spidey.
However, this Prowler is based on the Ultimate universe version, where the mask is worn by the morally questionable and antagonistic Miles uncle, Aaron Davis. He appeared for the first time in 2011 in Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man # 1 and will be performed by Mahershala Ali.
Aaron was played by Donald Glover in Spider-Man: Homecoming, six years after the actor. Appearance of Miles (with Barack Obama, then president)
We also saw Miles face a demonic version of Green Goblin, the biggest villain of Spider-Man. The first costumed Goblin appeared for the first time in 1964 in Amazing Spider-Man, but the first appearance of the monstrous version was in Ultimate Spider-Man # 4.
Both versions are Norman Osborn, Harry's father, the Peter's best friend. madness by his experiences in a quest to win superpowers.
It is likely that we will see many more characters at the Sony Pictures Panel – scheduled for Friday at 6:15 pm PT in Hall H of Comic Con – so we're going to see it. ll update this after that. Discover our complete guide on the billboards
