At least 15 people have died and 1,569 have contracted hepatitis E in Namibia since the outbreak was confirmed in the capital Windhoek in December 2017.
According to information from the Ministry of Health, the deceased had six pregnant women among the other categories of informal settlements in Havana and Goreangab.

The US embassy in Windhoek is negotiating with the Namibian Ministry of Health to assess the possibility of deploying a Second team of epidemiologists from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to provide medical and technical assistance to Namibia.He is a hepatitis E infection that is spread through direct contact with the fecal tissues of an infected person or by a con indirect faecal contamination of food or water sources. Pregnant women who are infected are at higher risk for acute liver failure, fetal loss and death.
